Penrith RSL contributes huge donation to the Queen of Hearts
“At the end of the day I would like to end domestic violence, I would like to end child abuse, once and for all”, Michele Ellery – CEO of the Queen of Hearts Foundation.
Penrith RSL Club has donated $10,000.00 to the Queen of Hearts Foundation as a part of their ongoing support of the local not for profit. The Queen of Hearts Foundation, based in Penrith NSW, provides support, protection and services for victims and survivors of child abuse and domestic violence.
“We wanted to give back to an organisation that is important to the Penrith community. We actually asked our staff, as members of the local community, to identify some organisations that they felt deserved some extra help and Queen of Hearts really stood out as something very special to a lot of people”, stated Mr Neel Chand CEO of Penrith RSL Club.
Ms Michele Ellery, CEO of the Queen of Hearts Foundation stated, “The fact is that a staggering one in three people are affected in some way by a violent or abusive act at the hands of someone in a position of trust. We are working to end domestic violence and child abuse.”
The Queen of Hearts Foundation supports survivors with a variety of comprehensive services. They offer and advise their clients on protection services, legal processes, medical support and counselling as well as helping with temporary housing and emergency extractions.
“Our clients are living a nightmare when they come to us. People don’t know what to do, how to get help, what will happen if they do get help. That’s where we aim to provide those answers and help them rebuild their lives.”
In addition to the recent $10,000.00 donation, Penrith RSL Club and its members raised over $3800 for the Queen of Hearts Foundation earlier this year and $4470 last year, for a total contribution of $18,339 in funding so far.
“As we are un-funded by the government, all of our work is made possible through fundraising and support from the community and organisations like the RSL,” stated Ms Ellery.
Penrith RSL Club recently contributed over $300,000.00 in donations and in-kind support to local organisations through Club GRANTS.
“We support a variety of groups, some are RSL related like Legacy and Homes for Heroes and some are local groups like our sporting and intra-clubs and of course the Queen of Hearts. Our community is everything to our club and it means a lot to us to be able to help where we can,” stated Mr Frank Portelli, Chairman of Penrith RSL Club.
