My name is Jacinta-Lea Fa’Asolo and I’m in year 11 at Penrith Christian School.
When faced with choosing an organisation to complete my work experience with, Queen of Hearts immediately captured my interest. The work that this foundation does is truly benevolent and amazing; I knew I had to get involved – even if it was in a small way.
At the beginning of the week I of course was a little nervous but on the most part excited and eager. I love a little bit of everything in all aspects of my life, and so a week of working with Queen of Hearts had me wanting to fully experience everything on offer.
I arrived on Monday and was warmly welcomed by the ladies – Michelle, Tenaia, Amelia and Sharon. They showed me around the office space and gave me an introduction and outline of what I’d be doing during the week.
I handled a few phone calls, helped organise the calendar and did some other admin work. Michelle was also lovely enough to give me a taste of what it is like to do event managing. She mentored me in creating a plan for an upcoming partnership launch. During the week, I was given the duties of writing up emails to other organisations, designing invitations and such. I had never worked on a project like this one outside of school so this type of work allowed me to grow and become more professional in my graphics design, organisation and management skills.
I felt recognised by Queen of Hearts and an important part of the team. Throughout my time, I witnessed firsthand the effort, time and love that ladies at the foundation put back into the community. Working here has enhanced my understanding of the importance of these community services in Australia. The services provided by Queen of Hearts are extremely important and pivotal in the healing of women, children and men effected by domestic violence and child sexual abuse.
In the future I aspire to make change and bring hope to people just like the ladies at the foundation do. I highly respect and commend the ladies at Queen of Hearts. It has been so rewarding, I am honoured to have completed work experience here and hope to be back again soon.
